To serve all Chinese immigrants and help bridge their cultural and social gap to mainstream America. We aim to provide a means for them to keep in touch with their Chinese homeland heritage, news, local American Chinese community news, and to improve their quality of life in the United States.
One of the few U.S. daily newspapers distributed on a national basis, World Journal is published by independent operations around the United States, including Boston's own east coast edition. The World Journal has become a vital part of the everyday lives of Chinese Americans/Chinese Canadians with a loyal following of readers from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
The World Journal has recognized the rapid growth and changing demographic profile of Chinese immigrants and responded to their changing needs through continuous advancements in content, technology and service. Its team of professionally trained reporters and editors produce several local editions to address local issues and events while maintaining the scope and depth of its coverage as a national paper. In 2007, the World Journal launched a digital edition, http://epaper.worldjournal.com further broadening its multimedia offerings. The digital interface allows readers to view every edition available, including the Boston edition.
The Boston edition publishes between 52 and 60 pages daily, 365 days of the year. Coverage of the World Journal highlights important international, U.S. and Canada, economic, and political news with special emphasis on news from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and local Chinese communities here in the United States. The World Journal also features sports, entertainment, finance, literature, forum, children's world, home, technology, health and medicine and consumer and business news.
The World Journal has received numerous awards for its service to the
community as well as acknowledgements from leaders including several United States Presidents and Canadian Prime Ministers for its key role in helping new immigrants to assimilate. Chinese Premier Wen Ja Bao acknowledged being a World Journal subscriber and relying on worldjournal.com for his news on overseas Chinese.
World Journal has raised over 6 million in disaster relief funds supporting victims of disasters in the United States and Asia.
The Boston Edition is run locally at its branch office located at 216 Lincoln Street in Boston, Massachusetts. World Journal's popularity boomed in the late 1980's when Mr. Thomas Chang stepped in as Regional Director - a position he holds to this day. Over the next 24 years, World Journal has become the largest, most influential Chinese newspaper in the Northeast, evolving into the most reputable, trusted, and popular Chinese publication in Chinatown, Boston, and its surrounding suburbs.
Besides Massachusetts, the Boston Edition is also sold and read in Maine,
Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Rhode Island (Connecticut distributes the New York edition). In 2003, World Journal partnered with PCF Corporation to build a home delivery network which now consists of well over 150 cities and towns ranging all the way west past Worcester. The World Journal Boston Edition continues to expand its reach as more subscribers sign on everyday to receive the newspaper.
Keeping up with modern times and technology, World Journal Boston Edition is also available online as an e-paper (something no other competitor has done or has the resources/ability to do), with an easy-to-use/easy-to-read online interface created just for World Journal, loyal Boston Edition readers can now follow what's happening in their hometown as they travel away for business, vacation, or any other time they may be out of town. Held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month (August), the August Moon Festival is a Chinese holiday where families get together to feast and celebrate the end of the harvest season. Chinese families eat and gift moon cakes to/with each other as a way of giving thanks (like Thanksgiving in America).Chinese legends say the moon is brightest and roundest on this day, and this is the day where friendships are made and renewed, as well as a special day for romance.
To help the Boston Chinese community continue to celebrate and remember this important Chinese holiday/culture, the largest Chinese organization in Chinatown, the Chinatown Consolidated Benevolent Association of New England (CCBA), has sponsored Boston's August Moon Festival for over 41 years. With bountiful celebratory events and activities in Boston, World Journa l helps promote the day's events to the New England Chinese Community, which in the end, is very important to Chinatown's economic restoration as well. The August Moon Festival in Boston is held on the Sunday in the middle of August of the
Gregorian Calendar.
World Journal publishes a special addition and the holiday is typically a perfect occasion for both small and large businesses around Massachusetts to put in a special greeting ad, wishing the Boston Chinese Community a happy August Moon holiday.
Different ad sizes and greetings are available, contact World Journal for more information on advertising during this special happy occasion.
